an evil genius?

Should I be concerned that Robs doesn't know ANY colors?

Yes, hes 3 and I know that its not that big a deal, but I just think its a little odd that he truly doesn't know ANY colors.  AND, its something we actually work on with him.

What color is that wall Robs? (its yellow)  Red.

What color is Superman's cape Robs? (its red)  Black.

What color are your jeans Robs?  (there blue)  Purple.

Now none of this is that big a deal right now but it just seems odd to me that he is fully learning the rest of the normal 3 year old things except colors.  And, I mean he doesn't get ANY of them right.

Ever.

You  would think that he would eventually get one or two right by guessing but he doesn't.

Sometimes, I think hes just screwing with me.  I wouldn't put it past him to do that, but I should be able to tell after awhile that he is tricking me, right?

Or maybe I'm raising an evil genius that is just trying to make me crazy very slowly....

I will blame Brian for that though.

I talked with Rob's preschool teacher about it this morning and she hasn't ever dealt with this before with such a young student so she didn't really know much about it.  She did tell me that she would find out some more info for me though about it.

Ultimately, this is a pretty minor thing to deal with, so we are lucky.  I still don't want Robs to be made fun of when he gets a little older because he colors a tree the wrong color or his rainbow colors are wrong in science class.

I'm sure we will get it all figured out but it just another thing that Robs has to deal with.  Thank God that its minor!

Linking up today with PYHO :)

  1. My son remembers the letters and numbers off and on. I think he is just busy thinking about other things when I ask him about them.

  3. My friend's child just turned two and he knows his alphabet, including knowing what letters are what...like you can randomly pick a letter and he'll know.
And he knows his numbers up to ten...same deal.
And here is my son, could care less about learning but he's thriving.
My friend grills her son like there is no tomorrow. We take a slow approach and make the learnign fun.
He'll learn when he wants to. Just keep throwing in colours in everything you do...

  5. This is what we try to o too.  Not push, let him figure things out a bit on his own.  Part of it is because he is the 3rd and we are busy and tired. We will keep working on the colors so hopefully he will pick them up soon :)

So good to "talk" with you again Kim!

  7. have you taken him for an eye exam? Maybe he can't see the colors? My daughter is 2.5 and knows her colors. My son is 5 and doesn't know his alphabet. Everyone is different, and maybe your son just doesn't care about colors yet. I would get an eye exam though.

  8. Hmmm...I think I read somewhere that only boys are color blind?  or at least they are more prone to it or can inherit that gene.  Perhaps he truly cannot tell the colors apart?   I am such a laid back mom that this wouldn't really worry me much at all, and I'd probably have his eyes checked right before Kindergarten or something.  If you think he might just be "messing with you"  then try bribing him.  Tell him that if he tells you three of the colors that you point to, you will give him an ice cream sandwich ... or something like that.

(okay, am I the only one who bribes my kids with stuff?)

I'm a new follower of your blog :)
